Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan held a press conference on 12 May 09 where he said that two weeks after WHO sounded the alert, the world has learnt a lot more about this A/H1N1 virus. He added that Singapore remained lucky with no cases here and said that this was partly because we had low human traffic with Mexico. Minister Khaw said that now that the virus was endemic in the US, it was a matter of time before we discovered cases here, given the high volume of travelers between the US and Singapore.

Schools sustain H1N1 precautions, but leave of absence ends Mon 6 July

As of next week, cchools will no  longer require students or staff with travel history to take Leave of Absence, as this  measure is no longer effective with effect from Monday 6 July. Those currently serving  Leave of Absence will be informed that they can return to school from next week.  Students from institutions of higher learning will return to school on Monday 6 July while  students from schools will return to school on Tuesday 7 July (as 6 July is Youth Day, a scheduled school holiday).

95 new confirmed cases of Influenza A (H1N1-2009)

Singapore has confirmed 95 new cases (784th - 878th case) of Influenza A (H1N1-2009) today, bringing the total tally to 878 confirmed cases. Investigations are on-going for these 95 new cases. Of the 97 cases investigated yesterday, there were 49 local cases and 48 imported cases. To date, 329 patients have been discharged and the rest are recuperating.

Singaporeans should carry on with their usual activities whilst observing good personal hygiene at all times. If unwell, they should see a doctor, stay away from work, school or crowded places, and rest at home. Investigations are on-going for the 72 new cases. Of the 64 cases investigated yesterday, there were 42 local cases and 22 imported cases.
