THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE WANTS YOUR FEEDBACK - LAUNCH OF BUDGET 2010 FEEDBACK EXERCISE

1. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) launched the Budget 2010 Feedback Exercise on 30 November 2009. Through this, MOF wants to engage the general public on issues relating to public spending and gather your views on the initiatives Budget 2010 can include to enable sustained and inclusive growth for Singapore.

2. MOF in partnership with REACH, invites you, to contribute feedback and constructive suggestions on issues which you feel is relevant for Budget 2010, and how it can enhance Singapore's economy, while being a best home for all Singaporeans. From 30 November 2009 to 12 February 2010, members of the public can contribute their views through:

a. The Budget 2010 website.
b. REACH's SMS channel: 9-Speak-Up (9-77325-87). Normal SMS charges apply.
c. Mail, phone or facsimile. Contact details can be found in Annex A.

Both general feedback and suggestions on specific aspects of public expenditure are welcome.

 

3. REACH and MOF will also be organising dialogue sessions from December 2009 to January 2010.

 

4. To promote greater awareness of the Budget and public financing issues among youths in Singapore, MOF will be conducting two inter-school challenges - Budget Debate and Budget Quiz in early 2010. Through these fun and interesting activities, we hope that our youths will be more aware of the challenges and considerations that the Government faces in managing and allocating our finite resources.   

Budget Quiz Challenge

This will be the first time that a Budget Quiz competition will be held. With a fun and interactive format, the quiz will see 3-member teams from schools in Singapore competing with each other to test their knowledge on economics and public spending to be crowned as the champion.

Budget Debate Challenge

The Budget Debate Challenge was successfully held for the first time in 2009, receiving overwhelming response from schools. Now back for its second year, the Budget Debate Challenge hopes to build on its initial success to allow students opportunity to experience the intensity and intellectual challenge of being in a parliamentary debate.
